The pastoral work at Shirley continues to thrive. We have a group of seven team leaders, who each have a number of pastoral visitors working under their guidance. We have thirty one visitors at present. Each visitor delivers the Quaterly magazine.
Twice a year we have a training session, usually led by our minister or an invited speaker. Many aspects of pastoral care have been covered including bereavement counselling, safeguarding, prayer and confidentiality issues. Some training has taken the form of question and answer sessions, when matters of concern can be raised.
One of the most important aspects of our work is through the ministry of flowers. Three times a year flowers are delivered to housebound members, and those who are ill or recently bereaved. Each Sunday the church flowers are taken out to people in a similar situation or to those who are celebrating a special event. Such gifts are very much appreciated by the recipients.
The effectiveness of our pastoral care very much relies on good communication. We would therefore ask you to let us know of anyone particularly in need of support by passing on the name to the team leader on desk duty on a Sunday morning.
